The School of the Prophets grew out of the Prophet Joseph’s desire to fulfill the Lord’s commandment to establish a house of learning, even a temple for teaching the followers of Christ His doctrines of the Gospel and for other sacred purposes. Before the temple in Kirtland was built, however, the school was actually held in an upstairs room of the Newell K. Whitney store in Kirtland, Ohio. Later, all discussions were held in an upstairs room of the glorious new temple as a school for the elders, which became the basis of the Lectures on Faith.
For us today, the dynamic teachings and proclamations that came from Joseph and those humble, sincere men teach us tremendous insight and truth. The Lectures on Faith is for those of us today, who seek that same understanding and Divine truth, to glean for our own use the doctrines and teachings of those powerful lectures. Joseph always shared truth with inquiring hearts and minds. We should do the same!
This three-disc set of discussions and presentations follows the original text with its complete format, including comments and inquiry, just as the writers transcribed the Lectures on Faith. Although there are varying opinions as to exactly who actually presented all of the discussions, for our purposes here, Lectures on Faith CD is narrated as though the it were Joseph, himself, teaching! There are also several addendum sermons and articles on Faith by Orson Pratt and others, as well as the Prophet Joseph Smith Jr.
